Audi Sport premiered the latest evolution of the Audi R8 LMS at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
This new fourth generation of the LMS is tailored to the current FIA racing regulations and operating costs of modern customer racing teams that the LMS is built for.
The R8 LMS made its debut in 2015, and has since been on the top step of the rostrum at many endurance races around the world. But this new evolution of the winning car will “focus on the customer and their needs,” according to Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing.
During the development of the latest R8 racer, Audi Sport wanted to make sure customers had a better technical base than ever before. This involved optimising parts of the car – such as aerodynamics and cooling – to give greater consistency across various driving conditions.
According to Audi, the new model will be easier to use for amateurs and customers, while still providing top-end performance and the potential for racing success. The German firm said these changes will benefit everyone, from pros to first-time racing driver.
Furthermore, these changes can be retrofitted to the existing R8 LMS. The evolution kit costs €28,000 (plus VAT). Following FIA homologation, the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 will be competing for points, victories and titles from January 2019.
If it performs anything like the previous generations, many wins should be in the offing across many competitions and categories.
