Lexus teases its new ES executive saloon in first official picture

Lexus has released a teaser image of its upcoming ES saloon, which is set to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show.

The picture gives little away – simply showing Lexus’s now trademark gargantuan metal grille and angular headlights.

It’s set to be the Japanese firm’s latest entry into the executive car class, and will replace the manufacturer’s GS model.

The ES nameplate has been around since the firm’s birth in 1989, although this new model will be the first time it has officially been on sale in the UK.

The slow-selling GS is set to be discontinued next month, according to automotive magazine Autocar. In 2017, just 428 GSs were sold in the UK, making it one of the firm’s worst-selling models.

The ES, as with the GS, will rival other executive saloons. Its main rivals will include the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, and the recently unveiled new Audi A6.

As with nearly all of the firm’s models – minus the LC coupe and sporty ‘F’ models – the ES is likely to just use hybrid powertrains.

While Lexus hasn’t confirmed this teaser is of the new ES, a leaked image of the new car from a few days ago looks identical to the car shown in this official photo.

Lexus said: “This all-new vehicle aims to radically transform the concept of comfort for luxury consumers all over the world.”

The ES will make its global debut at the Beijing Motor Show on April 25.
