Lamborghini has unveiled its new limited-edition flagship model – the Aventador SVJ.
Revealed at a premiere during the Monterey Car Week in California, only 900 examples of the ultra-exclusive SVJ will be produced.
The hypercar is the most powerful V12-engined Lamborghini to date, with power output increased to 770bhp at 8,500rpm and 720Nm of torque at 6,750rpm.
It weighs just 1,525kg and is capable of 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds, 0-124mph in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of more than 217mph.
The letters SV mean Superveloce, which translates as “superfast” – fairly self-explanatory.
As for the letter J, that’s a bit more complicated. It stands for Jota – the Italian pronunciation of the letter “J” – which is a reference to Appendix J of the 1970s FIA International Sporting Code and highly appropriate for the SVJ, as it has already set the Nürburgring lap record for a production car, with a blistering time of 6:44.97 minutes.
It will cost from £291,667 in the UK, excluding tax, and deliveries will start in early 2019.
Stefano Domenicali, chairman and chief executive of Lamborghini, said: “The Aventador SVJ is an innovative car and represents the absolute pinnacle of our super-sports car product range.
“The challenge to Lamborghini designers and engineers was to improve the purest essence of the Lamborghini super-sports car, drawing on every inspiration from a spaceship to a jet fighter: all the most exceptional examples of super-fast, super-athletic, aerodynamic superiority.
“The Aventador SVJ takes another step into the future, shaping the potential for super-sports car development.”
Alongside the SVJ, Lamborghini also unveiled the Aventador SVJ 63 – another exclusive version of the car, celebrating the Italian manufacturer’s founding year of 1963. Only 63 examples of this unique configuration will be built. No price details have been released.
