Kia has announced a mid-life refresh to its Stinger saloon, which includes a minor cosmetic update, new technology and increased power.

While the styling isn’t radically different, there are enough tweaks to separate it from its forebearer, including new LED lights at the front and back as well as an updated version of Kia’s trademark ‘tiger nose’ grille.

Inside, little has changed. The biggest difference is the addition of an optional 12.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The split-screen display will allow the driver to control or alter different features at the same time, and it also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Kia has also announced the UVO app, which allows drivers to start their car remotely as well as pre-activate the seat heaters and ventilation remotely via your mobile phone.

The new Stinger also features a host of safety kit too, including Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist.

“The Stinger remains the standard-bearer for the Kia brand, almost a decade after we first revealed the Kia GT Concept in 2011. It remains our most driver-focused car and is capable of covering great distances in comfort and style,” said Thomas Schemera, Head of Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group.

The range-topping twin-turbo 3.3-litre T-GDI V6 petrol model gets a new Electronic Variable Exhaust Valve system which increases power to 367bhp and 510Nm of torque.

“The upgraded model builds on the Stinger’s well-established grand touring ethos, with a renewed sense of design flair, new powertrains and technologies, and greater usability enhancing its appeal for buyers in markets around the world.”

Prices will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date, but it’s expected to start at around £41,000 when it hits showrooms in the third quarter of 2020.
