Jaguar’s biggest-selling car, the XE, has been named the ‘Safest Large Family Car’ by crash safety testing body, Euro NCAP.
The compact executive car was revealed in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show, before being launched just nine months ago. Alongside the accolade of ‘Safest Large Family Car’, it has also been included on the seven-car shortlist for the prestigious European Car of the Year 2016 Award.
The XE was awarded the title after scoring consistently highly across all of the NCAP safety categories, including a maximum score in the side barrier impact test for adult occupant protection, which gave the XE a incredible 92 per cent overall in the category.
Boasting standard safety features including Autonomous Emergency Braking, the XE performed extremely well in the other categories of safety assist, pedestrian protection and child occupant protection.
Secretary General at Euro NCAP, Michiel van Ratingen commented on the XE: “Euro NCAP gives top honours to the Jaguar XE which offers the highest levels of occupant protection and avoidance technology, and rewards the XE as Best in Class of 2015 in the large family segment. Euro NCAP particularly congratulates Jaguar for making all important Safety Assist features standard equipment.”
The XE is now available to order in the UK, with the £29,775.00 2.0-litre 163PS Ingenium diesel RWD manual model boasting ultra-low CO2 emissions of 99g/km and combined MPG of 75.
Alongside its impressive fuel economy, the powerful XE claims a top speed of 132mph, and can accelerate from 0 – 60 in just 7.9 seconds.
