Hyundai has given us a glimpse at a new SUV concept to be revealed at the 2019 LA Motor Show.

The ‘ground-breaking’ vehicle will feature a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain and focus on ‘eco-lifestyle’.

The coupe-like SUV’s design takes inspiration from the Le Fil Rouge saloon concept, in addition to the Grandeur luxury saloon, which isn’t currently sold in the UK.

The car has what Hyundai is calling a ‘Parametric Air Shutter Grille’. The clever grille can ‘control airflow to the powertrain, optimising aerodynamics and fuel efficiency’.

Sangyup Lee, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Global Design Centre, said: “We pursue innovative solutions in design and add emotional value to our product experience through sensuous sportiness design language.”

The news follows the manufacturer announcing that it would have 13 new electrified models on sale by 2022 – seven of which are expected to be SUVs – meaning this concept could influence future production cars.

Hyundai, already offers multiple electrified cars, which include the Kona and Ioniq, which are each available with multiple electrified powertrains.
