Hyundai has announced pricing and specifications for its Kona crossover, which starts from £16,195 and goes on sale at the start of November.

The Kona will compete in the ever-growing small crossover market, alongside forthcoming cars such as the Citroen C3 Aircross, Kia Stonic and Seat Arona.

Just two petrol engines will be offered with the Kona initially – a 1.0-litre T-GDI that produces 118bhp and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, and a range-topping 175bhp 1.6 T-GDI engine that is paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive.

A 1.6 CRDi diesel is also expected to be added to the line-up soon after launch.

Five trim levels are available on the Kona – S, SE, Premium, Premium SE and Premium GT. The latter is available only with the 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol engine.

Standard equipment on the S — starting at £16,195 — includes 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning with rear vents, automatic lights, cruise control, electric and heated door mirrors, Bluetooth and a five-inch LCD screen.

The Kona offers high levels of standard safety equipment, too. Driver attention alert, lane keeping assist, hill start assist control and downhill brake control feature on all models. Premium SE adds blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, while the premium GT adds autonomous emergency braking.

Tony Whitehorn, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “Hyundai has long been a pioneer in the SUV market with the Tuscon and Santa Fe and the all-new Kona completes a line-up that now gives customers a Hyundai choice in every segment of what is still a rapidly growing sector.”

It is available to order from November 2 and includes an unlimited mileage five-year warranty.
