The Honda Civic Type-R is now available to pre-order, ahead of it’s showroom debut early in 2015.
Demand for this latest Type-R product – the first Honda hot hatch since the demise of the previous generation model in 2010 – has been so great, Honda has taken the unusual step of opening an official pre-order book, with interested parties able to secure a car with a £3,000 deposit.
The price of the new five-seater is yet to be confirmed, though is expected to remain competitive with its numerous European rivals, with an expected list price of around £30,000.
Engine details are also yet to be fully confirmed, though the Type-R will use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, which will be turbocharged for the first time in the model’s history. This has been done to remain in touch in terms of both power and exhaust emissions, in a class in which every competitor sports a similar setup.
Honda is adamant, however, that the new engine will retain the revvy characteristics that defined previous generations of this popular performance model. The manufacturer is also remaining coy on just how much power the car will have, stating simply that it will have “more than 276bhp”. However, it is widely expected the engine will boast over 300bhp in production guise, which would make it one of the most powerful hot hatchbacks available.
The new Civic Type R was previewed at the Paris motor show in early October, as a concept car. However, the production model will share its aggressive styling, with the tarmac-grazing front splitter and huge rear wing expected to make it intact onto the showroom version.
