A Ford Thunderbird once owned by Marilyn Monroe could fetch as much as £380,000 at an auction in November.
The Thunderbird was purchased by Marilyn Monroe Productions – the actresses’ company – in December 1955, and is believed to have been a Christmas present from her business partner and photographer Milton Greene.
The car was owned by Monroe for six years, and it is believed that the Thunderbird was the car she travelled in to her private wedding with Arthur Miller, in June 1956.
Documentation proves that Monroe was the original owner, while the car is described as being in ‘show condition’, with a lengthy restoration to bring the car back to ‘as new’.
Despite its heavy restoration, it’s said that a special effort has been taken to leave the interior, and where Monroe is believed to have sat, untouched. Just 30,399 miles have been uncovered since it had a full engine rebuild.
The car is being sold by Beverly Hills-based Julien’s Auctions on November 17, along with a host of other celebrity memorabilia at the ‘Icons & Idols: Hollywood’ auction.
Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions, said: “This wonderful black Ford Thunderbird is not only part of the automotive history but comes with an aura of glamour, romance and tragedy of a true Hollywood legend.
“Once in a while something comes along that has a powerful magic about it, a charisma, because of everything and everyone associated with it.”
The model is expected to sell for up to $500,000 (£380,000) at the auction.
