Ford has launched new protective shields to help maintain social distancing on its Transit and Tourneo models to help keep the driver and occupants safe.

The shields can be easily and quickly fitted to offer four separate configurations, splitting cabins from front to rear and from left to right. They’re designed to help taxi operators, as well as those using their vehicles as school buses and patient transport.

The shields and mounting points have been carefully designed to maintain safety for occupants, with lightweight and flexible materials used to prevent injury in the event of an accident, as the mounting points and strap positions enable normal deployment of side and curtain airbags.

They are made of transparent polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic with integrated straps for simple installation and can be sanitised as part of interior disinfecting procedures.

Owen Gregory, Ford Europe commercial vehicles aftersales director, said: “Commercial vehicle operators have faced unprecedented challenges in 2020 and are adapting to new norms as they continue to provide their vital services to our communities and economy.

“Our new protection shields provide additional support to our customers as they continue to operate in challenging circumstances, offering drivers and passengers peace of mind as they work and travel.”

The screens are initially available on the Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom, and will be offered on smaller Courier and Connect models later this year.
