Ferrari has suspended production at its Maranello and Modena plants until March 27.

This is due to fears over the current Covid-19 pandemic and has been implemented with immediate effect.

The manufacturer confirmed in a statement that the virus has started to affect its supply chain, meaning it can no longer continue production.

The news follows Italy going into total lockdown because of the Coronavirus of which the country has more than 17,000 cases of.

Louis Camilleri, Ferrari chief executive, said: “At a time like this my gratitude goes first and foremost to Ferrari’s women and men who, with their tremendous commitment over the past few days, have demonstrated the passion and dedication that defines our marque.”

Ferrari employees with the ability to work remotely are said to be doing so.

Lamborghini, another Italian-based manufacturer, also announced it would be suspending work at its Sant’Agata headquarters until at least March 25. This came just a day before Ferrari announcing the similar actions mentioned before.

A Ferrari executive added: “Our clients and fans are also top of mind for us at this time, as we prepare for a strong restart.”

Additionally, the brand’s Formula One team, Scuderia Ferrari, has suspended its operational activities.
