You may have heard of Dacia, the Romanian budget brand that “doesn’t do frivolity” according to its recent TV marketing campaign. It has taken the country by storm since its introduction in January this year, with its no-nonsense, no-frills approach to low-cost motoring.
Well, now it turns out Dacia does do frivolity, having announced a special edition version of its Duster 4×4.
Called the “Black Edition”, it is the sort of name you’d expect to adorn a high-end German executive saloon or sports car, not a budget mud-plugger.
Nonetheless, the model will sit at the very top of the Duster range and is equipped with niceties such as DAB digital radio, sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity and even a DVD player.
True to its moniker, the exterior has also been finished in a black vinyl wrap and the wheels have been upgraded to unique 18-inch items.
The only sticking point is the price. At £17,575 the Black Edition is some £2,280 more than the previous range flagship, the Laureate 1.5 dCi, despite being based on the mid-range Ambience trim level.
It is also almost double the price of the entry level Duster, with which it shares nearly all of its underpinnings, except of course being equipped with four-wheel drive. As Dacia themselves say: you do the maths.
The Dacia Duster is available to order now. If you prefer to buy used, you can browse our selection of second-hand Dacias here.
