Citroen has unveiled the European version of the new C5 Aircross SUV, following the Chinese-spec’s reveal at the Shanghai Motor Show.
The French manufacturer says the car, which will be launched towards the end of 2018, will be extremely comfortable as a result of its cutting-edge suspension system and upgraded seats.
The SUV features rear seats that individually slide, fold and recline, meaning owners can change the layout of the interior at will.
It’s got plenty of off-road capability as well, with 230mm of ground clearance, grip control and hill descent assistance features, while power can be transferred between the front and rear wheels.
In terms of powertrains, customers have the choice of a 128bhp petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, a 178bhp petrol with an eight-speed automatic, a 128bhp diesel with a six-speed manual or automatic, and a 178bhp diesel with an automatic.
Citroen has fitted the C5 Aircross with its Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, which add two hydraulic stops to the suspension, meaning large bumps and impacts are absorbed easily.
There are also a number of new safety features on the car, such as active safety brake, active lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
The interior is kitted out with a 12.3-inch instrument panel and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Details of pricing for the C5 Aircross will be announced closer to the launch.
Alexandre Malval, head of design at Citroen, said: “We brought all the identity of Citroen design into the field of SUVs to shape new C5 Aircross SUV to enable it to seduce customers in every market around the world.
“The new C5 Aircross SUV stands out through its unique and modern shape. Besides all the features of an SUV, it carries the Citroen design touch, such as the central console – a strong expectation in the segment – which has been designed in a broad and horizontal way.”
