Audi has announced that it will be selling 121 Edition 21 versions of its range-topping A8, which share the sporty looks of the flagship S8, but do without that model’s price tag.
Just over 120 examples of this opulent machine will be built for UK customers to celebrate the car’s 21st birthday, with a raft of interior updates making the Edition 21 feel suitably upmarket. Normal and long-wheelbase models will be available with both packed to the rafters with all the slick design, high tech features and feeling of luxury that have secured the A8’s position at the top of the Audi tree.
Helping to make the A8 Edition 21 stand out is Audi’s new sport styling package for the A8, which features tweaked front and rear bumpers for a sharper look, along with unique 20-inch alloy wheels with a titanium-effect finish and dark tinted rear windows. It all combines to make this machine look much like the menacing S8 sports saloon. Edition 21 models also receive adaptive LED headlights that swivel as the driver turns the steering wheel to light the road ahead and dynamic indicators, which pulse in the direction of travel.
Prices for the new A8 Edition 21 will start at around £72,000.
The plush interior comes with the option of brown leather with black stitching and black leather with red stitching. Comfortable sports seats are also fitted, offering 22-way electric adjustment, pneumatic lumbar support and side bolster support as standard. All models also gain a sat nav system with Bose speakers and plenty of phone and internet connectivity options.
Powering the Edition 21 is a 3.0-litre diesel engine, which produces a substantial 258bhp and is plumbed into a four-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. As a result, this A8 takes just 5.9 seconds to sprint to 62mph, with claimed economy standing at 47.9mpg.
The new Audi A8 Edition 21 is available to order now with prices starting at £72,525 and the first models being delivered in November. Long-wheelbase versions will cost from £76,490 upwards.
