Audi has announced an extension of its scrappage scheme, taking it into 2018.
The scheme gives a contribution to customers swapping any pre-2010 diesel for a Euro 6 emissions compliant petrol, diesel or e-Tron models.
The scheme that came into force in September was scheduled to end at the end of this year, but has been extended into 2018. Volkswagen announced earlier in the week that it was extending its scheme, and now Audi has followed suit.
Most current Audi models are included in the scheme due to their Euro 6 complaince – the only exceptions being the Q7, TDI, R8 and RS models.
Under the terms of Audi’s scheme, all cars that are traded in are permanently taken off the road and scrapped. Compliant cars are those registered before 2010 that fall within EU1 and EU4 emissions categories.
Customers with vehicles that can be traded in can get between £2,000 and £8,000 towards their next vehicle, depending on the model chosen. For example, for Audi’s plug-in hybrid A3 e-Tron, the total contribution is £7,500 – including the government’s £2,500 plug-in car grant.
The scheme will now apply to all vehicles ordered before March 31, and registered by June 30. The deal still applies to customers purchasing through finance, although cannot be used alongside any other Audi finance offers.
Many car manufacturers launched scrappage schemes in September in an effort to get polluting vehicles off the road. While many manufacturers have either stopped schemes, or are meant to be doing so at the end of this month, some have already announced successful introductions – namely Ford and Volkswagen.
