Audi has announced the arrival of yet another new addition to its line-up in the form of a new crossover, heavily based upon the A1 Sportback.

The A1 Citycarver is a slightly taller, more rugged looking take on the supermini, with a revised suspension setup, larger alloy wheels and body cladding all adding to the look of the car.

While the exterior has been given a treatment not too dissimilar from the ‘Allroad’ versions of its various saloons and estates, Audi has done very little to shake things up inside.

A large touchscreen dominates the dashboard alongside optional digital dials, and buyers can also choose to personalise the interior trim with a contrasting colour.

Standard equipment on the A1 Citycarver includes LED headlights, an S line roof spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels. It is expected to retain the SE, Sport and S line trim levels from the Sportback, though a price increase for the crossover version compared to the supermini is anticipated.

The engine choice is likely to remain similar to the standard A1, with buyers able to choose between turbocharged 1.0-, 1.5- and 2.0-litre engines, delivering power outputs from 94bhp to 197bhp.

The Citycarver is likely to rival cars like the upcoming new Nissan Juke when it arrives on forecourts in Autumn; order books open at the start of August.
