Volkswagen has announced that its upcoming Caddy California will cost from £29,965 when order books open at the end of May.
Arriving alongside the larger California and Grand California, the Caddy version is based on the fifth-generation van and brings a whole variety of features designed to make it as adventure-ready as possible.
It incorporates a foldable bed with cup springs and a high-quality mattress that can be stored in the parcel shelf and opens out above the rear seats. There’s space for five people on board, though the second row can be removed entirely to boost in-cabin spaciousness. A standalone tent can also be added, increasing the Caddy’s living space.
A retractable mini-kitchen is fitted as standard too and extends out of the rear of the car to bring a single-burner cooker with an integrated gas canister. Camping chairs and a matching table are also stowed away in the van ready for use.
All cars come with air conditioning and a range of driver assistance technology, including a driver alert system, lane assist and cruise control.
Inside, there’s an 8.25-inch colour touch screen with Bluetooth and DAB digital radio. Buyers can also add a California Plus Pack for an additional £960, bringing a front centre armrest with space for two drinks, a 230V inverter and three-pin UK domestic socket. Dark tinted rear glass, two USB points and power latching on all doors are also included.
Prices start from £29,965 for a Caddy California powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, rising to £34,699 for a diesel-powered version. A larger Caddy Maxi is also available, priced from £31,285.
