The order books have opened for Volkswagen’s Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40.
The special edition hot hatch celebrates 40 years of the iconic Golf, utilising a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 286bhp. That means the Edition 40 can reach 62mph in just 6.3 seconds, carrying on to a top speed of 155mph.
Coming in both three and five-door specifications, the Edition 40 is still a usable everyday road car, and is even able to achieve 40.9mpg.
Technical aspects of the car include a ride height lowered by 15mm, as well as a front differential. Power is then driven through custom ‘Quaranta’ 19-inch alloy wheels – these bring with them a significant 3kg weight saving over traditional alloys.
Inside, there’s a wide variety of standard equipment and styling touches that make the car instantly recognisable as a GTI. Sport seats trimmed in alcantara, and a black headliner give the Edition 40 an instantly premium feel, while the trademark ‘Golfball’ gear stick remains.
A large rear spoiler sits at the back of the car, providing extra downforce at high speeds while also visually distinguishing the Edition 40 from the rest of the range. Stainless steel door sills etched with red GTI lettering also give the Edition 40 an added visual edge.
Production of the Edition 40 is to be extremely limited, with no more than 1,000 examples being created.
The Edition 40 is available to order now, with the first deliveries expected to arrive this summer.
