Aston Martin is responding to demands by purists by creating a manual V12 Vantage S.
The V12-powered supercar is being offered with a full seven-speed manual transmission, featuring a ‘dog-leg’ first gear.
The gearbox also includes AMSHIFT, a system that makes sure that each and every gearchange is perfect. It will automatically blip the throttle on upshifts to make sure that they are as smooth as possible.
Ian Minards, director of product development, said: “We’re all driving enthusiasts here at Aston Martin. Bulding cars that offer something exceptional is what we do. Technology drives us forward, but we understand the importance of tradition.
“The true purist will always hanker for the tactility and connection offered by a manual transmission, so it has been a real pleasure to offer just that in our fastest and most focussed model.
“At a time when manual transmissions have almost entirely disappeared in high-performance cars, this makes the manual V12 Vantage S a very special car indeed.”
The V12 Vantage S still retains some creature comforts such as a full infotainment system that incorporates satellite navigation as well as media controls. Apple CarPlay is also included, meaning that connecting an Iphone is even easier than before.
Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO, said: “Broadening the scope of the V12 Vantage S with a manual transmission option is an indication of our desire to offer the keenest drivers a more analogue and immersive machine to enjoy.”
