Mercedes-Benz is bringing a new GLS SUV to market and it will be the biggest and most luxurious yet.

It’s even larger than its predecessor, measuring in at 5207mm long and 1956mm wide – that’s 77mm longer and 22mm wider. That has led to an extra 60mm of interior space, adding even more room in the rear seats for passengers.

The third row can also be lowered into the floor for a mammoth 2,400 litres of loading space.

The GLS gets a raft of comfort features for passengers too, such as rear-seat entertainment systems with 11.6-inch touchscreens for movies and music, and a separate tablet for controlling the temperature and music from the rear rows.

These rear seats are electrically adjustable seats with an easy entry function, plus heated function and USB points even in the rear seats.

“The new GLS is the S-Class of premium SUVs. It embodies luxury, confidence and intelligence like almost no other vehicle”, commented Ola Källenius, the member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for corporate research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development.

Gorden Wagener, chief design officer at Daimler AG, added: “The GLS combines modern luxury with the character of an off-roader. Powerful highlights of the off-road design idiom combine with an elegance reminiscent of a classic luxury saloon.

“The interior is a synthesis of modern, luxurious aesthetics, hallmark SUV practicality, and digital high-tech. In our view, the new GLS therefore offers the best of all these worlds.”
