Mercedes has revealed the details of a new, fast, mid-sized SUV – the GLC 43.

The new GLC 43 is Mercedes’ latest car to come from a lasting partnership with AMG, offering performance and speed in a usefully-sized package. Filling the gap between the GLA and GLE, the GLC is designed to give customers a little more room without making the car too intimidating to place on the road.

The GLC is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which produces 367hp as well as 520Nm torque. This means that this mid-sized SUV can go from a standstill to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds and carry on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

Tobias Moers, CEO at Mercedes-AMG, said: “With the new GLC 43 4MATIC we are offering an AMG model in the mid-size SUV segment for the first time. The new SUV from Affalterbach marks the pinnacle of the GLC product range and in the AMG portfolio it closes the gap between the GLA and GLE.”

AMG has also worked its magic on the GLC’s suspension, giving the four-wheel-drive system rear bias and therefore a greatly improved on-road feel. On top of this, speed-sensitive sports steering helps give the GLC a more sporty-feeling drive, as well as giving drivers the best chance of using the most of the V6 under the bonnet.

A nine-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox provides smooth, effortless gearchanges no matter what speed the GLC is travelling at. AMG Dynamic Select also allows drivers to choose between four transmission modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
