One of Britain’s most iconic toys, the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, has quite literally grown into the world’s first adult sized toy car, in celebration of it being the UK’s best-selling car.

Since the birth of the little red car in 1979, it has sold over 22 million models worldwide, not only making it one of the most widely recognised children’s toys, but the most popular car in Britain, too.

Yes, you read that right; in 2012 the Cozy Coupe sold more than 30 per cent more examples than the most popular real car, the Ford Fiesta, which sold 109,625 during the same period.

It doesn’t stop there either, the popularity of this zero emissions, self-powered car has once again seen sales of the Cozy Coupe already racing ahead of the Fiesta, which has sold 63,040 in the first half of this year.

Built by a 12-man design and engineering team, the Giant Cozy Coupe took three months to build and is identical to the original in every aspect. In fact, the giant version could easily fit a 6’6” man inside.

To celebrate its landmark for being a UK bestseller and most loved children’s toy for 30 years, the adult sized Cozy Coupe made its way across the streets of central London.

European marketing manager for Little Tikes, Rachael Springett, said: “The Cozy Coupe is an iconic toy adored by children the world over. Since its conception in 1979, over 22 million models have been sold worldwide, making it one of the most widely recognised children’s toys and one of the most popular cars of all time.

“Today marks a celebratory moment in its history. The fact that the toy is still going strong after 34 years of production is a testament to the entertainment it offers children, staying relevant and fun during their most formative of years.”

Little Tikes has yet to confirm whether or not we’ll see the giant-sized Cozy Coupe in production, only saying “let’s wait and see, but it would be fun”.

However, there’s no doubt that adults and parents alike will be keen to have a go.
