Kia has released details about the European specification of its new Stinger GT fastback model.

The handsome grand tourer was revealed at the Detroit auto show on January 9, with the top-spec V6-engined model proving to be the star.

However, the South Korean manufacturer has now outlined what European customers can expect to see when the car hits dealer forecourts later this year.

There will be three engines available, with a 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol at the top of the range. It has 358bhp and 610Nm of torque, contributing to a 0-60mph sprint time of just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is expected to be 168mph.

A second petrol is available in the form of a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that makes 251bhp and 353Nm of torque. A 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine completes the powertrain options, making 197bhp and 440Nm.

All engines come with Kia’s eight-speed automatic transmission, which uses special technology derived from aviation and racing to reduce unwanted vibrations.

It’s available with both rear- and all-wheel drive options. The former comes with a mechanical limited-slip differential to put power to the road, while the latter gets a torque vectoring system that adapts power delivery depending on the road conditions.

The car has been developed on the Nurburgring in an attempt to give it excellent driving dynamics. To achieve this goal, it comes with electronically adjustable suspension that can change the car’s ride depending on whether the driver wants to cruise comfortably or drive fast.

Pricing will be revealed closer to the car’s release date later this year.
