Today has been a monumental day for Infiniti, after first customer collections of the carmaker’s all new Q30 took place.

Production of the Q30 only began in December, and following final quality checks, the vehicles have been released for sale across Infiniti’s ten UK dealerships.

The C-segment model is a milestone for Infiniti, as it marks the brand’s first venture into the fast-growing premium compact segment. It is also the first of the carmaker’s vehicles to be manufactured in the UK, and the production of the car at the Sunderland plant means that Infiniti has become the first new car brand to manufacture on such a large scale in the UK in 23 years.

Thanks to its comprehensive technology package and advanced safety approach, the Q30 was recently awarded the title of best-in-class “small family car” 2015 by independent vehicle safety organisation Euro NCAP, after surpassing all competitors.

2016 looks set to be a busy year for Infiniti, which is owned by Nissan Motor Corporation, with its QX30 active crossover set to begin production at the Sunderland plant in spring, and the new sports Q60 expected to arrive in UK showrooms soon after.

Meanwhile, its dealer network will expand with the opening of a new centre in Bristol, by retail partner Motorline. Infiniti will also be opening its first authorised repairer, located in Exeter. Both centres are expected to be operational by the end of January.

Infiniti’s Regional Director for the UK, Carl Bayliss, commented: “2015 was an excellent year for Infiniti. Not only in terms of sales but we are starting to build the foundations and plans for the new products arriving in the next 12 months. It is going to be another very exciting year for Infiniti in the UK.”
