Hyundai has revealed a bold special edition Kona, inspired by the famous Iron Man costume from the Marvel Studios’ franchise.

On the outside, the Kona has a front LED daytime running light signature resembling that of the Iron Man mask as well as the character’s famous motif appearing on the roof, Iron Man badging at the front and custom 18-inch alloy wheels with branded centre caps. Other features include engraving on the D pillars from the film and a dark chrome front grille. All editions will painted in matte grey, with ‘Iron Man Red’ detailing.

These details also spread to the inside, too. Tony Stark’s alter ego Iron Man’s signature appears on the instrument panel, while the Kona features an Iron Man gear lever knob, custom seats and more interestingly, Iron Man graphics on the car’s head up display.

Dean Evans, chief marketing officer at Hyundai Motor America, said: “Hyundai is excited to work with Marvel on the Kona Iron Man Edition; it really is the perfect mash up.

“There is also a nice synergy between the fun and adventurous nature of the Kona and the playful yet bold character of Iron Man/Tony Stark. The outcome is a remarkable special edition that we’re sure will appeal to Marvel fans and SUV enthusiasts alike.”

It was unveiled on the Marvel stand – the firm behind the Iron Man film, and one of the largest character-based film and entertainment companies – at the 2018 San Diego Comic Con. Comic Con is a huge exhibition for comic, film and sci-fi fan, and attracts over 130,000 people to the annual event.

It’s not the first time Hyundai has teamed up with Marvel, as its 2019 Veloster Turbo (which isn’t on sale in the UK) is set to appear this summer in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp film.

While Hyundai has yet to say the number that will be built – instead calling it a ‘global limited production – the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed that UK orders will be taken for the Kona Iron Man Edition in 2019, although it will be ‘built to order’.

Hyundai has recently launched both a fully-electric and diesel version of the Kona, with the range starting from £16,450.
