Ford has been on a role of late. With its new clean cut styling language, the blue oval has been carving a new image of quality and efficiency for itself with a range of technically up to date and dynamically capable motorcars. Arguably at the forefront of this product charge is the all new S-Max which builds upon its predecessors classy styling, fun driving feel, excellent practicality and competitive pricing. With a variety of engines, trim specifications and optional extras, theres an S-Max for most occasions. Here’s a breakdown of what fits who best.

The Smart Choice For Saving Money- Zetec 120 Manual

The Zetec is commendably specced up for an entry level offering. SYNC 2 Multimedia is capable and attractive and features an 8 inch touch screen. Parking sensors feature as standard for the drivers convenience as well as power fold mirrors, keyless go and a DAB radio. Excuses are no longer required at this entry point in the range with these impressive amenities provided as standard.

This spec combined with the efficient low C02 2.0 Duratorq TDCi 120 engine gives you a well equipped, economical and grunty family wagon with exceptional safety credentials and lovely driving characteristics. All for a fiver under £25,500.

The Smart Choice For Value- Titanium 150 Manual

This S-Max in Titanium specification builds upon the already generous equipment standard of the Zetec but with added grunt, technology and aesthetic features. The addition of LED Day running lights, privacy glass and body colour trimmings afford the S-Max Titanium a more premium look over the Zetec. Tech wise, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, cruise control and lane keeping aid make the drive a more assisted, chore free and relaxing experience.

The slightly more powerful 150ps version of the 2.0 Duratorq diesel allows for more get up and go in this specification whilst sacrificing very little in the way of efficiency. In terms of bang for your buck, the Titanium 150ps TDCi manual performs well with the additional visual, technological and dynamic clout. All available for under £3000 more than the Zetec 120, at £28,095.

The Smart Choice For Technophiles- Titanium Sport 210 Auto

The S-Max is by no means an out and out plain Jane family tourer, however, as more exciting tech laden specifications and exuberant power-plants are available. For this choice we’ve gone for the Titanium Sport equipped with the 210ps Duratorq TDCi Powershift dual clutch. A more attractive body styling kit (including a spoiler), clever LED Adaptive Headlights (£1000) and attractive 19 inch wheels (£550) give a premium visual impact to match the powerful diesel engine.

A panoramic roof (£750) lets lots of light in on the fantastically specced cabin making the car feel airier and more spacious. Underneath all the frippery, the practical and efficient S-Max remains true to purpose but this higher specced model makes for an appealing, well performing and luxurious proposition.

The Titanium Sport 210ps diesel auto specification with added extras takes the price up to a relatively high £34,945, but the outlay is in accordance with the extra performance, technology, aesthetic enhancements and driving enjoyment on offer.
