If you’ve always wanted a new Civic Type-R, there’s no time to lose. Honda will stop selling the car across Europe later this year because it cannot pass new Euro V emissions legislation which comes into effect next month.

Production of cars for sale in Europe will cease at Honda’s Swindon factory in October. However, workers there will continue to build Type-Rs for sale in countries that have less restrictive emissions controls, including South Africa and Australia. Swindon has turned out over 12,000 since the latest generation ‘R’ was introduced during 2007.

There’ll be no immediate replacement, says Honda, leaving the Civic 1.8 petrol and the 2.2 diesel, each with 138bhp, as the most potent Civics. Honda hasn’t yet named a launch date for the next-generation but it is expected to arrive in just over a year.

To mark the end, Honda is selling remaining Type-Rs at a discount. The asking price for the GT model comes down to £19,495, a reduction of £2230.
