Spy images have just been published showing an extreme version of the latest generation W464 Mercedes G-Class undergoing testing in Germany.

The images, released in Autocar today, show the G-Class 4×4² being put through its paces by Affalterbach, who are responsible for some of Mercedes’ most extreme models, including the six-wheeled G63 6×6.

While there is little word from Mercedes about the project, based on previous adaptations on the G-Class, it’s expected to be powered by the same 577bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s available in the current model. However due to the limitations caused by ride height and tyres, power could be toned down, but either way it will still come with heavy running costs.

With concerns over reducing the overall CO2 emissions across the Mercedes Benz fleet, it’s expected to be produced in very small numbers when it goes on sale with an expected £150,000 price tag.

The last-generation W463 G500 4×4² was initially shown as a concept car badged “Extreme-G” and went onto production in 2017 in the US with 2,300 being made – each commanding a $200,000 price tag.
