Having been fortunate enough to receive an invitation to the Royal Box to watch the men’s tennis final alongside Hollywood stars Bradley Cooper, Hugh Grant and Benedict Cumberbatch, two-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton spoiled the day for himself by turning up in what was deemed to be unsuitable attire.

The box’s strict dress code means men are required to wear a jacket, tie and shoes, so when the Mercedes driver rocked up in a floral shirt and trilby, it appears as though he was prevented from gaining entry.

A Wimbledon spokesperson said:“ If he (Hamilton) was not adequately dressed, you could infer that he would not have been let in, but we do not comment on our guests.”

Though there was no official statement on why the F1 star’s seat was empty, it’s quite clear that his choice of clothing for the day was the reason behind him missing the event as the spokesperson said his two choices would have been “not staying or going to get some extra stuff.”

This is the second time in recent weeks Hamilton has been in the news for being unaware of the social graces regarding Royalty. He recently revealed that around a year after receiving his MBE, he was invited back and was rebuked by the Queen during a dinner party for trying to speak to her out of turn.

Thirty-year-old Hamilton currently sits atop the F1 standings, 17 points clear of teammate Nico Rosberg with 10 races remaining.
