Grandfather is gifted his favourite Mercedes

An Illinois family surprised their grandfather with a car he had been dreaming of since he was a young man.

A heart-warming video shows the moment the man, known affectionately as Pop Pop, is presented with the coffee-coloured Mercedes 450 SL.

At first, the elderly man mistakes the car for a birthday present for one of his grandchildren, but after being told it’s for him, he utters: “You kidding?”

Overcome by emotion, he exclaims: “I can’t believe it,” before climbing behind the wheel of the classic.

A voice in the background explains that the car had come from a man who restores older models, and that it once belonged to the model and actress Christie Brinkley.

Posting the touching video to YouTube, user Wolfayy 110915 wrote: “My parents are the most incredibly generous people I know and decided to get my grandfather the car he's always wanted. It was great because he thought that it was a birthday gift for me.

“He was just so cute that I had to share.”
