Ford’s small EcoBoost engine is well-regarded for producing an impressive amount of power from a small capacity unit. At just 1.0-litre, it performs as well as other much larger engines.
However, it has rarely been applied to other areas.
Ford has explored this by strapping one to a skateboard, in a test that it is calling ‘The Boost’. The series includes other experiments with the engine, including powering a blender with one, or using one to create a ballistic ball launcher.
Actor Dolph Lundgren stars in the short film, which sees the 123bhp motor attached to the skateboard.
The 1.0-litre engine does well to move the skateboard to higher speeds, though the ending of the show is less realistic than some of Lundgen’s other films.
It’s a light-hearted look at how Ford engine technology could be utilised in other areas, but also shows the powerful nature of the smaller unit.
