The launch of the latest generation Fiesta ST came at a busy time for the hot hatch market. Rival models from Peugeot and Renault offered more power and more equipment, but for many it’s the Ford that still comes out on top.

On the road, it may not have the oomph to keep up with its key rivals in a straight line, but through the corners it’s one of the best in class and is easily the most fun to drive. Power takes the form of a 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine pumping out 180bhp – around 10 brake less than rivals. Behind the wheel, the front occupants get figure hugging Recaro sports seats and the cabin is beautifully crafted, with hints of alloy and ST badging.

The Fiesta ST ticks all the boxes when it comes to hot hatch ownership, and when it comes to value for money, it leaves its main rivals scratching their heads.

The Ford Fiesta ST starts at £18,250 but previous generation versions can be found on Motors.co.uk from £4750
