For most of us, our car is very important. It’s a big financial outlay, it’s where we spend many hours every week, and it’s a way to broadcast our personality to the rest of the world.
There are literally hundreds of cool car accessories available that can do everything from making your car do a better job of expressing who you are, make long journeys more relaxing or just keep you safe.
If you want to get some new accessories for your vehicle, there are a number of different avenues to travel. Here at Motors.co.uk, we’ve scoured the Internet for some of the most interesting, useful and downright cool car accessories on the market!
Emoji air fresheners
Let’s start with something totally non-essential but fun nonetheless. If you’re the sort of person who likes to hang an air freshener from your rear-view mirror, there are literally hundreds of designs on the market.
A UK company called EmojiFresh has breathed new life into the market with its emoji-themed air fresheners. The scents on offer include coconut, strawberry and bubblegum.
The designs include the ever-popular aubergine, a ‘major’ key and a pokeball for those who’ve been enjoying Pokemon’s recent resurgence. There’s even an emoji moustache to celebrate Movember, which donates funds to charities battling prostate and testicular cancer.
Dashcams are no longer the preserve of Russia. The country made them popular thanks to insurance laws requiring their use, and videos of weird and wonderful scenes they captured have filled many YouTube compilation videos.
But they’re becoming more and more popular in the UK, too. Sure, they’re a great way to capture bad driving, road rage or hilarious pedestrian mishaps, but most importantly they can be invaluable in the case of a crash.
Recently, we’ve been testing a range of Nextbase cameras and have found their models offer a good range of price points – spend less and image quality suffers, spend more and you can record in full HD. All come with useful GPS tracking, though, and footage can be used as evidence should the worst happen.
Three-point plug power adapter
Most cars have 12-volt charge points or cigarette lighters that can be used as a charging point, so make the most of it with a three-point plug adapter.
The best designs come in the shape of a coffee cup so they’ll fit in holders and allow you to charge larger items that would normally have to stay dead until you got home. Everything from camera batteries to laptops can be topped up as you drive.
Easy quick jumper
A dead battery can be a nightmare if you don’t have the right kit with you. Waiting for a friend to turn up and jump-start your car, hoping a friendly passer-by offers to help or calling a breakdown recovery service is hassle that can easily be avoided.
The Wagan Easy Quick Jumper is an excellent bit of kit that requires no mechanical knowledge whatsoever, and is small enough to fit out of sight in the corner of the boot.
The way it works is by connecting one end to your car’s 12-volt point or cigarette lighter, and the other end in the same place of another car. All you have to do then is sit back for five or so minutes to allow your car’s battery to be replenished.
In that short time, you should have enough electricity stored to turn the engine over and get on your way.
Wireless charging dock
Finding the time to charge your phone during the day can be a pain, especially if you’re constantly on the move. Thanks to wireless charging technology, there are now a number of elegant solutions.
Many companies now offer phone holders that double up as charging points. Samsung offers a nicely designed in-car phone holder that can charge any Android phone. It can stick to your car windscreen and can even double up as an in-office holder if you can get it to stick to your desk.
Another solution is the Forrader in-car ‘coffee cup’ charger, that takes advantage of your cup holders to offer an unobtrusive solution. Simply place your phone into the slot and leave it to charge.
So there you have it – our top tips for in-car accessories. Each of these suggestions is really easy to use, install or store in your car, so whatever your technical knowledge, you’re well catered for.
