New low-cost roadster is the second model available from reborn sports car maker MG.

A new MG TF is to begin sale this summer. MG Motor UK, now owned by Chinese car corporation SAIC, is to offer a cheaper model that will sell for £13,511. This prices it £2500 below the only other MG available, the LE500.

MG Motor offers the new car through its 40-odd UK dealerships. As with other TFs, it is a cloth-topped two-seat roadster, in this case powered by a mid-engined 1.8 K-series engine developing 135bhp.

The TF first saw life back in 1995 as the MG F. The engine and body structure remains from that era, although past owners BMW gave the car a thorough-going revamp for the 21st century.

The LE500 at launch last year saw a return to the new-car market after a three-year absence, following the collapse of its owners, MG Rover.

Later this summer, a special edition TF will be offered, to celebrate MG’s 85th anniversary. At present, all cars are imported from China. A decision whether to assemble cars at MG’s headquarters in Longbridge, Birmingham is expected soon.
