One of David Beckham’s first cars that he owned as a professional footballer is heading to auction for charity.
The Volkswagen Golf was owned by Beckham when he was just 19, at the very start of his career. He owned the car at the same time as making his first full appearance for Manchester United, in a League Cup fixture against Port Vale.
The car was purchased from a Manchester dealership in 1994, just three years after signing for the famous team on a trainee contract. It was 1994 when Beckham also made his UEFA Champions League debut against Galatasaray.
Beckham’s Golf is being auctioned off to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, alongside a number of other items with celebrity connections. A giant teddy bear, which has been signed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp after featuring on the Graham Norton chat show, is also going under the hammer.
The bidding has currently started, and will come to a close at 9pm on Tuesday 8 December.
The Golf, which offers a great chance to own a piece of Beckham memorabilia, also comes with a picture of the car signed by the famous winger himself.
Despite not being one of Beckham’s most glamorous or expensive cars, it’s the ideal way to own a little bit of the footballer’s history.
After completing his university studies in English and Creative Writing in Cardiff, Jack is now a full time motoring writer at Blackball Media. His love of cars stems from his childhood years when he began to live and breathe all-things automotive.
