Mercedes has confirmed that the next model to be added to its EQ line of electric cars will be a crossover.

Called the EQA, it’s said to be closely based on the newly revealed GLA and will be “presented in 2020”, according to a recent teaser.

The news follows on from the Concept EQA being shown at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The teaser image reveals a more conventional design – more likely closer to production – than its concept counterpart.

The EQA will join the EQC in the firm’s electric-focused range, which Mercedes is trying to fill with more bodystyles. Other models that are expected to join the line-up include the EQV – an electric version of the V-Class MPV – and EQS – a luxury EV similar to that of the S-Class.

The EQA is set to be one of the cheaper models in the EQ range, as the GLA it’s based on is both the smallest and most affordable car in Mercedes’ SUV line-up. As mentioned before, we should see a reveal of the full production version in 2020.
