A rare Mercedes McLaren SLR supercar, formerly owned by French footballing legend Thierry Henry, has been advertised for sale on Motors.co.uk.
This 2004 model – coincidentally registered the same year Arsenal last won the Premier League – would make the ideal buy for a well-heeled Gunners fan looking to get their hands on some silverware.
This SLR has covered just 3,636 miles in Henry’s custody, meaning the gleaming silver bodywork and red leather interior are absolutely unmarked and as new. Its concours condition and full service history means its commands a robust £200,000 asking price.
One thing for prospective buyers to take note of is that this particular example is left-hand-drive – something that may put off potential owners. It would however suit Arsenal’s most outspoken fan, Piers Morgan, on his morning LA commute, provided America hasn’t had enough of him and sent him back.
With 617bhp, the Mercedes McLaren SLR is one of the brand's fastest and most powerful road cars
Once the world’s fastest production car to be fitted with an automatic gearbox, the SLR – the product of a road car collaboration between automotive giant Mercedes-Benz and F1 team McLaren – is capable of reaching 208mph thanks to its heavily supercharged 5.5-litre V8 engine. With 617bhp on tap, the benchmark 0-62mph sprint is dispatched in a scant 3.7 seconds, too.
However, being a Mercedes, the SLR is no pared-back thrill machine. That slick-shifting auto-box, cruise control, xenon headlights and many other creature comforts give the car impressive GT credentials.
In this respect, the SLR is a rather unique beast. Comfortable enough to storm across Europe in a single hit, but with performance to give Ferrari drivers a fright, it’s a rarity in the world of hyper-performance luxury cars.
Henry’s SLR isn’t the first celeb car to appear on Motors this year. Katie Price’s pink Range Rover was also advertised on the site after she failed to find a buyer over Twitter.
