As one of BMW’s premium models, the 7 Series offers superb accessories, space and performance, and now the German manufacturer has added to the executive saloon’s range.

In its sixth generation, the 740e and 740Le xDRIVE have been added to bring the 7 Series range into the electric age, and these plug-in hybrids will offer great range, power and performance.

With a total of 326bhp from the petrol engine and electric motor, the new models won’t lack any oomph, and with the electric motor to help extend the range, expect in excess of 100mpg from both versions. The 740e has an expected mpg of 134.5, while the 740Le, which also has four-wheel drive, has a figure of 117mpg. With CO2 emissions also very low, enjoy cleaner driving in style.

Having used technology from the BMW subsidiary BMW i, the 7 Series has benefitted from parts used in the i8 sports car and i3 hatchback to keep fuel use down and bring up the range of the engine.

The 740Le xDRIVE uses its all-wheel drive system at all times to give the driver confidence on the road whatever the conditions, and in MAX eDRIVE mode, the driver has complete electric power, which can take the model to a top speed of 87 mph.

The 7 Series with combined electric and petrol engines can reach a limited top speed of 155mph, with a 0-60mph time of under 5.5 seconds.

As with every other 7 Series, the interior is superbly well-appointed, with smartphone integration, touchscreen Control Display and iDrive system as standard. As well as extra driver assistance systems already fitted to make sure you stay safe on the road, the brand new 7 Series models maintain the superb standards of the rest of the range.

Both versions are on sale now, with the 740e available from £68,330 and the 740Le xDRIVE starting from £74,880.
