BMW has introduced a new function to its cars that enables drivers to pay for parking using just their car’s infotainment screen.

Available on more than 150,000 cars already on UK roads, the ‘RingGo’ app has been incorporated into the firm’s media system and aims to simplify and speed up payment. It also means drivers won’t have to carry cash or cards with them or have to call automated numbers to process phone payment.

RingGo is one of the largest cashless parking payment solutions across the UK, and is available in 450 towns and cities across the UK, including car parks and also on-street parking, too.

Peter O’Driscoll, UK managing director of RingGo, said: “This partnership with BMW has truly been a joint venture with motorists at the heart of the solution. It is another demonstration of the rapid evolution of integrated motoring, parking and mobility services, which puts motorists in control and removes any barriers in transitioning from one to another.”

The RingGo app will be available on cars fitted with the firm’s latest Operating System 7, and built from July 2018, which includes popular models such as the latest 3 Series, 4 Series and 5 Series.

BMW says the feature will be delivered as an integrated vehicle app and installed automatically as part of an over-the-air update. It’s the latest in the firm’s technological advancements, with another recent upgrade including a ‘Digital Key’ that lets users unlock and start their cars using their iPhone.
