BMW has unveiled a new four-door version of its rapid M8 luxury grand tourer. Named the M8 Gran Coupe, the UK will only be receiving it in top-of-the-range Competition spec.

Built to take on super saloons such as the Audi RS7 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door, the M8 Competition Gran Coupe boasts some impressive performance figures sure to send shivers down the spines of rivals.

Under the bonnet, the car features a monstrous 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 616bhp and a whopping 750Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels (with rear-wheel-drive available electronically) through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All this aids a 0-60mph time of three seconds and a top speed of 155mph – 190mph when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package. BMW claim ‘the V8’s rigid connection to the vehicle structure results in remarkable direct transmission of engine power to the drivetrain’.

A special gold and green First Edition – harking back to the 2018 M8 Gran Coupe Concept – will be coming to the UK but limited to five cars.

Prices start at £120,935, which is £2,500 cheaper than the two-door version – surprising considering buyers are treated to extra practicality.
