Fresh from its recent unveiling of the bare-knuckle V12 Vantage S, Aston Martin has now released details of its new production flagship, the convertible V12 Vanquish Volante.

The Vanquish sits at the very top of Aston’s model range. It blends the Grand Touring credentials of the exquisite DB9 coupe, with the more hardcore driver focus more recently exhibited in the marque’s V8 line-up.

The Volante’s performance statistics are identical to that of the Vanquish coupe, with the drop-top hitting 62mph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds and pushing on to a 183mph top speed.

This is no surprise, given the Volante also shares the same 6.0-litre V12 engine, which offers continent-crushing ability with 565bhp and 618NM of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

However, what buyers will be getting for their £10,000 premium over the Vanquish coupe, will be the ultimate poser’s wheels, thanks to a soft-fabric roof that can be raised or lowered in just 14 seconds. That, and liberal use of light-weight carbon fibre to offset the weight of the roof mechanism.

The interior is largely unchanged, though the Vanquish offers greater practicality than the old DBS Volante, with fifty per cent more boot space.

Aston Martin is taking orders for the Vanquish Volante now, though if the £199,995 sounds a tad steep, you can check out our selection of used Aston Martins here.
