If you seem to spend half your life searching for a free parking space, a new app has come to the rescue. JustPark, in collaboration with BMW, has created a free-to-download program for smartphones, which helps drivers to find and reserve a parking space, all from the comfort of the driver’s seat.

Once a space is booked drivers can then pay for and get directions straight to the free spot, all through their dashboard. This Apple app should help cut the 106 days that the average driver spends circling around on the hunt for a free parking space over their lifetime – and reduce urban traffic by more than 20 per cent, claims JustPark.

Linked to 100,000 parking spaces across the UK, JustPark currently allows Mini drivers to download the app to their phone and connect it to their car. Designed to be used on the move, the app integrates the entire parking process into the car’s sat nav system for the first time.

In 2014, no driver should have to experience the stress and uncertainty of circling the streets for that elusive parking space.

Drivers can either search for spaces near their final destination or around their current location while they’re driving. The app allows motorists to browse a selection of spaces from car parks and hotels to homes and pubs, with information extending to pricing and reviews from previous users. The sat nav system then takes drivers straight to the free spot.

Founder of JustPark, Anthony Eskinazi, said: “In 2014, no driver should have to experience the stress and uncertainty of circling the streets for that elusive parking space. JustPark gives drivers the convenience of finding and reserving an affordable parking space in moments. Just as we use apps to order taxis and takeaways, parking is finally being brought out of the dark ages.”

Director of Mini UK, Chris Brownridge added: ““The JustPark functionality – which is a world-first for MINI – will make securing a convenient parking place in our busy towns and cities a breeze.” This partnership makes Mini the first brand to allow drivers to reserve parking directly from their dashboard. BMW is planning to introduce this system across its model range later in 2014.
