Despite ever fluctuating fuel prices and competition for road space, it seems Britain hasn’t fallen out of love with 4x4s, with ownership having risen by over a fifth in the last five years, according to research conducted by insurance provider Admiral.

And, despite their ‘Chelsea Tractor’ monicker, it’s drivers in Aberdeenshire who have really been flying the flag for off-roaders. The town of Banchory has been crowned the four-wheel-drive capital of the UK, as it has the highest proportion of SUV owners, at 25 per cent.

Of course, the affluent neighbourhoods of London aren’t far behind in the SUV ownership stakes, with 23 per cent of drivers in South Kensington and Knightsbridge owning a four-wheel-drive car.
