Kia has announced that its striking new Sportage crossover will start from £26,745.

The Sportage is Kia’s best-selling model in the UK and now enters its fifth generation, with this latest car being the first that has been developed specifically for Europe. It gains an overhauled design with its fancy new boomerang-shaped LED headlights, imposing grille and sleek lines that make it far more stylish than its predecessor.

Inside, higher-spec versions benefit from Kia’s latest technology, which sees a large touchscreen merged with a digital dial system to give it an especially modern and futuristic appearance.

Though its predecessor was available as a mild-hybrid, the new Sportage introduces a full 227bhp hybrid and a 261bhp plug-in hybrid. More conventional engines remain available, though, including a 148bhp 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel with outputs of 113bhp or 134bhp – the latter version coming with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to maximise efficiency.

Prices kick off from £26,745 for the entry-level ‘2’ version, which comes as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a reversing camera and eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Sportier-looking GT-Line versions bring a more stylish bodykit, 19-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, keyless entry and suede leather upholstery, with these priced from £29,745. More kit is provided with the mid-range ‘3’ car, including a digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control and heated front and rear seats, with these available from £30,945.

Next up is the ‘4’ version, which is available from £36,645, and packs features like a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, upgraded LED headlights and a 360-degree camera system. At the top of the line-up is the GT-Line S, which brings electric front seats, ventilated front seats and a hands-free electric boot, with these costing from £38,645.

The new Kia Sportage will be available to order from December 15, with first deliveries planned during the first quarter of 2022. The plug-in hybrid will follow a few months later.
