What's Hot from October

December 17, 2014 | By | In News

Motors.co.uk’s latest car selling trend data allows you to see at a glance the hottest selling makes and models in the used car market.

October saw the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus take the top spots again with month-on-month sales, growing a massive 20% and 14% respectively. This helped Ford retain its place as the most popular brand with buyers in the UK and contributed towards an overall 17% rise in month-on-month sales across all of its models. Other good sellers included the Fiat 500, Nissan Note and Nissan Juke with overall sales leaping 30%, 15% and 14%.

After the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) released figures showing car sales in September as the second highest in 2014, the 426,000 new cars registered in September also made the 64 plate achieve the highest sales for a new number plate in ten years. Supporting the trend for car buying, Motors.co.uk has recorded overall sales of used cars up again in October with a 2.9% increase on September’s figures showing consumer confidence is continuing to increase.

Dermot Kelleher, director of marketing and business intelligence at Motors.co.uk, said: “We are thrilled to see the used car market is growing stronger and UK car buyers are eagerly snapping up a huge range of models from new 4×4 models, spacious, child friendly hatchbacks to small and zippy city cars.

“As economists advise the UK is on track to be the fastest growing G7 economy this year, and with consumer confidence rising for the third successive quarter in 2014, we predict the used car sector will continue to increase in growth as used cars provide a good value option for cost-conscious consumers.

“Our ‘What’s Hot?’ tool reveals that although traditional favourites from Ford and Vauxhall are still boasting excellent sales, newly refreshed brands such as Fiat and Nissan are proving wildly popular. With sales of cars under £10,000 taking 60% of the UK market in October, and Motors.co.uk currently boasting 275,000 vehicles, there’s something for everyone.”
