Volvo reveals adventurous V90 Cross Country

Swedish manufacturer Volvo has cemented its reputation as one of the leading all-road, all-weather carmakers with the introduction of its new V90 Cross Country.

Built with the harsh winters of Sweden in mind, the Cross Country promises safety, comfort and performance in a capable and adventurous package.

Rigorous testing, and 20 years of Cross Country production, ensure that the model will be able to withstand the extremes that come with off-roading in Scandinavia. From the frozen north of Sweden, where temperatures regularly drop to -40 degrees Celsius, to the searing hot Arizona desert, all bases were covered during the car’s development.

The car’s rugged exterior belies the luxury found inside, with the connectivity and entertainment technology found in the new S90 and V90, including a high-end sound system by Bowers & Wilkins.

The Cross Country will complete Volvo’s 90 series line-up, and like its three siblings, is based on the carmaker’s scalable product architecture.

“Designing a Volvo Cross Country is not a styling exercise, a plastic job. It is based on honest capability,” said Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president, design at Volvo Cars.

“The Volvo V90 Cross Country brings a surprising and intriguing combination of a strong, powerful exterior and a luxurious, Scandinavian interior. It will continue the genuine tradition of the Volvo Cross Country with a new recipe: the blend of powerful off-road capability in a most elegant, sophisticated, tailored wagon suit.”

Production of the model will begin this autumn at Volvo Cars’ Torslanda plant in Sweden, with first deliveries expected in early 2017.
