Volvo promising even safer cars in the future

Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has promised that its cars will be ‘death-proof’ by 2020.

With a company founded on a remarkable safety record, Volvo is committing itself to producing even safer cars.

The carmaker has said that a world where no one dies as a result of car accidents is closer than most people think, and that developing car safety technology could mean it comes even quicker.

Volvo recently revealed that there had been no reported deaths in its XC90 vehicle, which was delivered to the public last year.

With the invention of increasingly advanced safety technologies – such as collision avoidance, pedestrian detection and auto lane-keeping assist – the Volvo is already well on its way to keeping its promise.

Volvo engineer Erik Coelingh, said: “With the development of full autonomy we are going to push the limits of automotive safety.

“If you make a fully autonomous vehicle you have to think through everything that potentially could happen with a car.”

Volvo is hoping to setup autonomous technology in its cars, and has recently revealed a video showcasing the systems in partnership with technology giants Ericsson.

The new technology will allow drivers to set the car to travel on a certain route, allowing them to sit back and relax. The demonstration in partnership with Ericsson showed the driver even being able to set the navigation time to the same as the length of a TV show – so the driver doesn’t need to miss any of their favourite show.
