Volvo has unveiled a new swivelling child seat concept that will allow parents the ultimate combination of style and practicality.
Named the ‘Excellence child seat concept’, it claims to offer the utmost safety for transporting small children. Forming part of Volvo’s ‘lounge concept’ car interior design theme, the unit features storage space located underneath the chair, which is large enough to store blankets, nappies and even a small backpack, whilst side storage is available for smaller items.
The seat itself can be swivelled anti-clockwise and then locked in either a forward or rearward facing position.
This new concept child seat harks back to 1964 when Volvo was the first company to introduce the rear-facing child seat prototype in a PV544.
Parents are advised to place small children in a rearward facing position for as long as possible, due to their large and heavy heads and lack of muscle strength in their necks.
Tisha Johnson, chief interior designer at Volvo Cars, claims that alternative seating arrangements in cars will be seen more often as autonomous cars are developed.
