Spring is here, or so we say despite the snow, and since the kids are off school for the Easter holidays we’re betting you’re looking for something to keep them entertained that doesn’t involve copious amounts of sugary chocolate. Spring is a great time for a road trip, and there are 3 must-see British tourist spots reachable by car, which are at their peak at this time of year.
First up is Castle Coombe. Not only for vintage car shows, Castle Coombe has been said to be one of the prettiest villages in the UK. Located south of the Cotswolds, it boasts beautiful countryside and picturesque honey stone buildings. With its own local museum, famous church and the market cross to see it’s likely you’ll want lunch in the White Hart pub at the end of your visit.
Second on the list is Lacock. A village owned by the National Trust, Lacock has featured in TV shows and films for several years. In fact, Lacock Abbey was largely featured in the Harry Potter films – definitely something to excite the imaginations of little fans – and when your feet are getting a little weary there are plenty of independent tea rooms to rest at.
Last but not least is Dunster. Located in Somerset, this little countryside village has more to offer than you might think. Home to the Dunster Castle, 17th Century Yarn Market and bordering Exmoor National Park there is plenty to entertain old and young alike, not to mention beautiful green forest walks and a quaint village to explore.
Wherever you decide to visit this spring, before you set off be sure to give your car a quick once-over and to make sure there could be no mishaps. Each long journey should be preceded by a quick A – Z check.
