Refreshed Ford Ecosport priced from £14,245

The Ford Ecosport compact SUV has benefited from a mid-life refresh, and is offered with a range of cleaner engines, as well as greater levels of technology.

The most obvious change is the removal of the ungainly rear-mounted spare wheel – designed to appeal to the car’s main market of Brazil – which has been replaced with a tyre repair kit.

Inside there is a new four-inch colour media screen, part-leather seats and extended chrome trim. A heated windscreen and door mirrors are now also available, along with heated front seats as part of the optional Winter Pack. Cabin refinement has also been improved with better sound insulation.

The engine range has now been updated for EU6 compliance, with the 1.5-litre diesel motor managing 64.2mpg and emitting CO2 at a rate of 115g/km.

Also available are a brace of petrol motors, comprising a 1.5-litre unit and Ford’s brilliant 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which returns 52.3mpg and emits 125g/km CO2.

Ford has altered the Ecosport’s suspension in a bid to make it better to drive. A 10mm lower ride height and stiffer rear springs are claimed to give the high-riding car greater body control. The power steering and traction control have also been retuned to better suit European tastes.

The updated Ford Ecosport is available to order now, priced from £14,245 – some £700 less than before. First customer deliveries are expected in October.
